Information regarding how to get published, poetry magazines, competitions, venues, websites, small presses and literary development agencies will be distributed if and when they arise. The course will introduce you to some key elements of creative writing. You will be encouraged to find your own voice through guided writing activities, share your work and receive feedback in a supportive atmosphere.
The partnership between English Literature and Creative Writing has created interesting opportunities to explore my own creative writing. Saturday 21 September to Tuesday 24 September Residence 2: Flow and the psychology of discovery and invention. Students will develop an understanding of contemporary fiction in its various forms, as well as learning techniques and approaches necessary for creating their own.
To qualify, a student must attend the classes regularly and pass a test at the end of the second term. This necessarily involves undertaking assignments and exercises in areas that are new to students, and do not relate directly to any work they may have in progress.
This course is also excellent preparation for further study or research. Students returning to this course as intermediates will apply what they have learnt to an exploration of genre and various narrative techniques for the novel and the short story form.
